An article published in the Frontiers in Psychology presented a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials on the effects of various exercise training interventions, such as feelings of fatigue, energy, and vitality.
The analysis entailed searches from six databases; 3,600 articles with 81 studies discussing 172 effects met the inclusion criteria.
The findings revealed minor effects of exercise on feelings of fatigue and energy boost – small-to-moderate-sized effects. The effects remained consistent in sensitive analyses. While moderator analyses showed greater impacts of the exercise intensity and duration on fatigue, exercise intensity and type on increased energy and health; and exercise intensity modality and training location on the feeling of vitality.
It was concluded that continued study would help in ascertaining which patients are most likely to benefit from exercise training. This will aid in customizing exercise training interventions for patients – to enhance vitality and energy and combat fatigue.
